Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I've just signed-up, what are the next steps?

Join the Knit for 30 Minutes Every Day this November Facebook group. There you can register to get your fundraising pack, be inspired, connect with other #TeamBones participants and find out anything you want to know about the challenge!

Q. When does the challenge start?

The challenge officially starts on 1st November 2024, however, if you have other commitments, you are welcome to start the challenge early or late to suit you! This is your challenge, and you can adjust it to suit you and your lifestyle.

Q. How do I keep track of and share my progress?

You can use the manual tracker you'll receive with your official BCRT Tote bag. Write down how long you knit everyday, and remember to share your progress with your friends, on your social media, Facebook page or in our Facebook group. JustGiving have a helpful guide on how to share your page on social media here.

Unsure on how best to share updates? Take a look at our top tips below:

  • Videos: Short videos posted regularly with updates are a good a way to update supporters.
  • Photos: Simple photos of you knitting with an update are often all it takes to engage supporters. Try a selfie, flat lay of your knitting ready to go for the day and make sure to post photos of up-to-date trackers too.
  • Tik Tok: Doing a Tik Tok challenge with your knitting or making a “day in the life of” video – share and tag us!
  • Boomerangs: Short, simple and, more often than not, pretty hilarious! Boomerangs are a fun way to share progress.

Q. What is the challenge?

The challenge is to knit for a duration of 30 minutes every day this November.

Whether you’re a grand knit master or just casting on, we invite you to join in this month-long challenge to dedicate thirty minutes everyday to raise funds and awareness of loved ones affected by Bone Cancer.

This is your challenge to take on in your own time. You decide what you knit, you could take on a difficult pattern you have been wanting to try throughout November, follow our knitting or crochet patterns, or if you really want to challenge yourself create 30 different items in a month.

You could ask for donations for the creations you make and give them to your friends and family, raffle off a special creation (maybe a special Christmas jumper) or ask for sponsorship for taking on 30 minutes of knitting every day.

Q. Can I donate my knitting creations?

Yes we will be collecting blankets and adult hats for two homeless charities in Leeds, Homeless Street Angels Leeds and Homeless Hampers. You can package up your creations and post them to our head office:

BCRT, 10 Feast Field, Horsforth, Leeds, LS18 4TJ.

Q. I crochet, can I take part?

Not a knitter? No worries we welcome all crafters from creative crocheters to sewing bees, we welcome everyone to adapt the challenge to suit them.

Q. How do I raise money?

We ask you to set up a ‘Knit for 30 Minutes Every day’ fundraising page on JustGiving. For information on how to do this see the JustGiving help section here.

Don’t forget to post updates onto your fundraising page so your friends can follow your progress. These pages are linked to the Bone Cancer Research Trust, so we'll be able to see how you're getting on too and all money donated will come directly to us.

Q. Why is JustGiving asking for a tip on any donation?

JustGiving is free for charities and fundraiser to use, so they have introduced a "tip" to help towards their running costs.

You can remove this by clicking "Enter custom amount" and changing this to 0. You can read more about this on the JustGiving website here.

Q. I can’t knit everyday, what should I do?

You can start the challenge early, knit for longer on some days and have rest days in between. You need to make the challenge work for you and your ability and we are open to how you want to adapt the challenge.

Q. How do I get my free BCRT tote bag and registration pack?

Once you have registered, this will be sent out automatically. Please allow 7-10 working days for this to arrive.

Q. How do I get my orange BCRT T-shirt?

Individuals who raise £75 or more will receive a BCRT orange T-shirt. We will send these throughout the challenge.

Q. How do I get my medal?

Individuals who raise £150 or more will receive a medal and certificate in the post once the challenge has ended.

Q. How do I get people to sponsor me?

It is super easy to share with your fundraising page. Look for the SHARE button on your page to copy the link or share directly to your social media pages. JustGiving have a helpful guide here.

Remember to let supporters know how important your challenge is to you and how vital the funds raised are for the Bone Cancer Research Trust.

Q. Can groups take part?

Absolutely! If you would like to take part as a group, please email us at fundraising@bcrt.org.uk so we can register you as a group.

Q. How can I get friends and family involved?

Your family and friends will want to know how you are getting on so keep them in the loop by posting updates and photos on your fundraising page.

You could even ask your supporters to set you a challenge when they donate! Or even better, why not ask if they want to do the challenge with you too!

Q. What if I don’t complete the challenge, or I don’t raise any money?

We understand that sometimes things don’t go as planned, and we would hate for you to be disheartened if you don’t complete your challenge. The only thing that matters is that you gave it a go! All we ask is that you try your best.

If you feel like you need extra time to complete your challenge, you can always edit your fundraiser end date. If you need help to do this pop us an email on fundraising@bcrt.org.uk and we can show you how.
