On the 13th and 14th June, fourteen friends will be taking on the incredible challenge of a virtual National Three Peaks trek.

Chris Barnes, one of the team members, said:

Our team was formed back in February with a view to taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge in honour of Georgy, who was in remission from Ewing sarcoma. On May 3rd of this year his family found out that the cancer had returned and he is currently undergoing treatment. Despite the conditions of lockdown, we aim to complete both the distance and altitude required. Denstone College, Staffordshire, has been kind enough to allow us to use their grounds to complete this challenge. Their generosity plays a big part in making sure that this can go ahead and allows us to do it at a safe social distance.

Mat Cottle-Shaw, Head of Fundraising and Communications at the Bone Cancer Research Trust, said:

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bone Cancer Research Trust's income has dropped by 64%, which is a loss of over £680,000. As a charity we continue to face uncertain times and we are immensely grateful to everyone who is taking part in the virtual National Three Peaks challenge to raise life-saving funds for our research, which we hope one day will mean that children, like Georgy, won’t have to face this brutal disease. I would also like to take this opportunity to send Georgy and his family our very best wishes at this difficult time.

In addition to the challenge, Roger, one of the team members, has gallantly volunteered to dye his beard pink or shave it off as part of the fundraising! To sway the decision, people are being asked to make a donation and type PINK or OFF in their comment.

You can follow them on via their Facebook and Instagram pages to see their preparations and progress on Saturday 13th June - and to also see what happens to Roger's beard!

Georgy’s parents have requested that all funds raised go to Jude’s Fund, a Special Fund of the Bone Cancer Research Trust. If you would like to support them, click below.
