Charlie Smith is honouring his best friend Sam Fitzsimmons, who sadly passed away from Ewing sarcoma, by keeping a promise he made to Sam before he died.
Whilst sat on a beach in Ko Tao, Charlie promised Sam that on their next world tour, they would visit Beadnell beach in Northumberland. Charlie shared such fond stories of his childhood there and Sam naturally wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Unfortunately, Sam never got to see Beadnell as his condition quickly deteriorated and on the 16th May 2020, Sam lost his battle with Ewing sarcoma, which he had fought for two years.
Determined to keep his promise, Charlie will be running 76km from Newcastle to Beadnell beach on June 26th in support of Fitzy's Fund, a Special Fund of the Bone Cancer Research Trust.
Kate Connor, Community Fundraising Manager at the Bone Cancer Research Trust, said:
How wonderful that Charlie is keeping his promise to Sam by taking on this truly incredible challenge for Fitzy’s Fund. Thank you so much for your support Charlie – it makes our vital research work possible, so we can find new and better treatments. Your support means the world to us and – more importantly – to bone cancer patients and their families.
