This #SarcomaAwareness Month we are pleased to announce that we have increased our Financial Assistance Grants for UK-based primary bone cancer patients and their families.
The increase will reduce the impact of financial difficulties that patients face following a cancer diagnosis.
As the cost of living continues to rise across the UK, the stress, strain and uncertainty is causing particular hardship for people diagnosed with cancer. In fact, research by Macmillan Cancer Support suggests that many patients are now cutting back on essentials such as hot meals, heating and washing to cope with the cost of living crisis – putting both their health and treatment at risk.
To help alleviate some of the financial pressures faced and offer increased support for patients, we launched our Financial Assistance Grants scheme back in May 2020 and we are proud to have awarded 276 grants to-date.
We are committed to keeping up with the rising costs and additional expenses faced by cancer patients, by increasing our grants for all newly diagnosed patients across the UK.
Financial Support Grant £100
We offer each UK patient (or parent/carer of a patient under 18) in active treatment or newly diagnosed with a primary bone cancer or tumour*, a one-off £100 grant to help with the expenses associated with a cancer diagnosis and hospital visits.
*Includes all primary bone cancer/bone tumour treatment modalities
Travel Assistance Grant £170 – now available to patients travelling to clinical trials
We offer each UK patient (or parent/carer of a patient under 18) that's undergoing proton beam therapy for primary bone cancer, or on a clinical trial, a one-off £170 grant to help with the cost of travel.
