The Bone Cancer Research Trust is delighted to announce our new Chair of Trustees, Professor Alison Gartland.

Professor Alison Gartland has been appointed to lead the Board of Trustees and the Bone Cancer Research Trust in its mission to save lives and improve outcomes for people affected by primary bone cancer through research, information, awareness and support.

Alison is a Professor of Bone and Cancer Biology at The University of Sheffield and has been involved in primary bone cancer research for 20 years. She is also the first representative from the research community to be appointed as Chair of Trustees in the history of the charity.

Alison succeeds the former Chair of Trustees, Andy Lewis. Andy held the position at the Bone Cancer Research Trust for six years and has successfully led the charity’s Board of Trustees to help facilitate one of the charities most significant periods of development and growth. We are delighted that Andy will remain part of the board in his role as Trustee.

Mat Cottle-Shaw, CEO of the Bone Cancer Research Trust, said:

I am delighted by Alison’s new appointment as Chair of Trustees. Alison has provided invaluable knowledge and advice since joining the charity as a Trustee in 2020. I'm really looking forward to working with Alison as we continue with our vital work.

Reacting to her appointment, Alison shared:

Over the years of being involved with the Bone Cancer Research Trust I have come to know the staff, supporters, and patients – and I feel I have a connection with them that really makes me want to give more back to this amazing charity! I’m extremely honoured to be appointed Chair of Trustees, and I look forward to working with the rest of the board and the Bone Cancer Research Trust staff to continue our mission to make a real difference to those living with and beyond primary bone cancer and to ultimately realise our vision of a world where primary bone cancer is cured.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Andy Lewis for his outstanding leadership and contribution to the charity’s success over the years, particularly during the pandemic when the charity faced unprecedented times.
