Trafford Rowing Club is gearing up for a test of endurance and teamwork as it sets out to row 100km this September in support of bone cancer patients.
Our brand-new virtual fundraiser is open to everyone, and participants are encouraged to row their own way – in a boat as part of a team or solo, or indoors on a rowing machine.
Graham Whistance, chairman of Trafford Rowing Club, said:
“We are excited to take on this challenge and make a positive impact for the bone cancer community. Our members are dedicated athletes who also care deeply about supporting others. This challenge is a wonderful opportunity to combine our passion for rowing with our commitment to giving back.”
Laura Franklin, Challenge Events Fundraising Officer at the Bone Cancer Research Trust, added:
“On behalf of everyone at the charity, we are incredibly grateful to Trafford Rowing Club for taking on this oar-inspiring challenge to support our vital cause. The funds raised will go such a long way to supporting our patients and their families when they need us most.”
The challenge is also being supported by Paralympic rowing champion Laurence Whiteley MBE, who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma when he was 14 years old.
Despite gruelling chemotherapy and extensive limb-salvage surgery, Laurence was determined to revive his love of sport after his treatment ended. With the support of his father and a local rowing club, Laurence’s love of the sport grew, and he was invited to trial for Team GB.
If you would like to test the waters, Trafford Rowing Club are offering free trial sessions throughout summer — meaning there’s no better time to try a new hobby this September whilst supporting bone cancer patients.
