Financial Assistance Grants

Cancer can cost families up to £600 more every month. Our Financial Assistance Grants are one-off, non-means-tested payments to help with the extra costs that bone cancer treatment can bring. Here you will find more details on our grants and how to apply.

£125 Financial Support Grant

We offer each UK patient (or parent / carer of a patient under 18) in active treatment or newly diagnosed with a primary bone cancer / tumour*, a one-off £125 grant to help with the expenses associated with cancer and hospital visits. £170 Travel Assistance Grant

We offer each UK patient (or parent / carer of a patient under 18) undergoing Proton Beam Therapy for primary bone cancer, or on a clinical trial a one-off £170 grant to help with the cost of travel. Apply for a grant

You apply through a health or social care professional. This may be a social worker, a district nurse, a benefits adviser, or a member of your medical team
They should print and complete the relevant grant application form with you and scan and send it to our Support & Information Team at support@bcrt.org.uk (to make the process quicker you may wish to print the form yourself and give it to your referring health / social care professional)
Our Support & Information Team will then process and verify your application
Once your application is approved, our team will let you know and your grant payment will be made by BACS into your bank account

Every newly diagnosed primary bone cancer / tumour patient (or parent / carer of a patient under 18) or those currently in active treatment in the UK can apply for a Financial Support Grant.

Grants are for patients of all ages diagnosed with:

Every newly diagnosed patient or those still in active treatment for primary bone cancer/ bone tumour can apply for a £100 Financial Support Grant. A further £170 Travel Assistance Grant be applied for if the patient undergoes Proton Beam Therapy or is travelling to a clinical trial centre. A maximum of one of each grant will be given per patient.

Please note: Travel Support Grants are for patients undergoing Proton Beam Therapy only or travel to attend a clinical trial

Henry Dancer Days provide grants of £250-350 to families with an 18 year-old or under with Ewing sarcoma or osteosarcoma. This grant can be used for whatever the family needs. All that the family need to do is inform their Young Lives vs Cancer Sargent social worker or a medical professional who can apply for the grant on their behalf. Young Lives vs Cancer provide a £100 registration grant for children and young people aged 0-24 with a cancer diagnosis. If you are a young person (diagnosed between ages 16-24) or a parent of a child aged 0-15, you can apply for this grant here. They also offer a one off Winter Emergency Grant of up to £350 to help cover extra costs. The Winter Emergency Grant is for young people (aged 0-24) and families who are being supported by Young Lives vs Cancer and are in need of financial help this winter to cover costs related to cancer and treatment. Candlelighters offer a non-means tested £600 new patient grant (paid over 3 months in equal installments) to all cancer patients aged 18 years old or younger being treated at Leeds General Infirmary. They also offer non-means tested hardship grants for these patients and their families. Applications for all grants are through the patient’s social worker/Young Lives vs Cancer worker.
